Telecentres: one-stop learning hubs in rural Bangladesh
This is the title of the conference paper Farzana Akther and I presented at the ELLTA 2011 conference earlier today. We were in the very last time slot of the schedule, but were fortunate enough to have a really interested audience who gave good feedback on the presentation.
Among other things, Farzana presented a 3 stage development model to describe how the centre in her case study had evolved over time, which is definately something to elaborate further in the future. Slides from our presentation will be available on the eLearning Lab website shortly (www.ell.aau.dk).

Truly Asia!

I am in Penang, Malaysia, for the first ever ELLTA (Exploring Learning and Leadership Theory in Asia) Conference. The conference is highly interactive with a multi-cultural group of participants from Asia, Africa, Europe, North America and the Middle East.

The conference focuses on learning and leadership theories in Asia, aiming at both developing and applying an approach which does not give priority to theory and philosophy rooted in a Western culture over oriental and other non-Western theories. This seems to be of greater importance in the field of leadership than in the field of learning and teaching.

I am following a stream of paper presentations on “elearning in Asia”, where later today Farzana Akther and I will present our joint paper on ICT-centres in rural Bangladesh.
