A treat and a challenge :-)

After a few hours of intensive work, the idea for a research paper develops - focus, theoretical concepts, data, research question, etc. All that remains is to transforms the notes (see photo) into a well-structured, clear and convincing piece of writing. Hopefully this will be as much fun as developing the ideas together with Jacob Davidsen…

Interesting group of visitors in eLearning Lab today. Thomas Ryberg was hosting a visit by a group of ICT and media consultants from all over the country. They all work with taking ICT into use in schools; some as instructors; some as ICT & learning-experts in schools; some as trainers of teachers, etc.
We had good discussions about challenges and opportunities in working with the so-called ‘digital natives’. Identification of the rigth level of technical competency seems to be a shared concern for many of the participants - what do young learners need to know about the technology and how it works? and when is it more important to be able to do things, rather than to understand why and how it works…?
Also the qualifications of the teacher is in focus, and the question of how to find the best way of educating teachers to use media and ICT in pedagogical sound ways. Lots of shared interests, in other words :-)

Collaboration with Søndervangskolen moves into a new phase
On Aug. 26th, Jacob Davidsen and I presented the work we have been doing in relation to their project “Learn and Move” to a group of teachers and school management.
We are still working on the report from the project. New things keep happening, and thnks to a grant from the Obelske Familie Fond, we are hopeful that we can continue our field studies at the school.

March 17-19, 2010, University of Stockholm will host the Designs for Learning conference. Together with colleagues I have submitted two abstracts for presentations and papers, and they have both been accepted. Together with Jacob Davidsen: Using ICT as a tool for collaboration in the second grade – challenges and lessons learned. And together with Tom Nyvang, Lillian Buus and Thomas Ryberg: A Flexible Design Methodology for Web 2.0 Mediated Learning.

On January 11th-13th 2010, the Learning and Technology World Forum takes place in London. Thanks to our collaboration partner, John from Søndervangskolen, Jacob Davidsen and I have been nominated as participants in the World Forum, and we’re looking forward to this exiting event.
The World Forum is followed by the annual BETT conference - British Education and Training Technology - also in London. An interesting international event to start off the new year :-)
